Seattle, Washington: Site of a Hooverville
The shanty towns that pockmarked America during the Great Depression were bulldozed long ago, but at least one "Hooverville" -- mockingly named for then-President Herbert Hoover -- has been remembered with a small historical plaque.
- Address:
- 401 Alaskan Way S., Seattle, WA
- Directions:
- On the west side of Alaskan Way S. at the corner of S. King St. It's a small brown plaque, bolted to the side of a small, gray, electrical substation building, easy to miss.
