Hackensack, Minnesota: Paul Bunyan's Sweetheart Lucette
Woodsman Paul Bunyan's sweetheart, Lucette Diana Kensack, is 17 feet of lady fiberglass. The original statue was erected in the early 1950s, the character named in a contest (runner-up: Landa Happy Waters). That version fell apart; this replacement appeared in 1991.

Lucette is located in the town park. There is a playground, picnic shelter, visitor center, fishing docks and the cutest little library you have ever seen. Bathrooms are located on the back side of the visitor center. While not up to date, they are no worse than your typical campground restroom.

The miniature Paul Bunyan Jr. who once stood next to Lucette, Paul's sweetheart, wasn't there when we visited. But there was a statue in the same park, by the bike trail, which I'm assuming is Paul Jr.

[pthomp, 08/30/2009]Sept. 2012: Jacqueline reports that little Paul is gone.
I just saw her last weekend -- she still looks great! Paul Jr., however, was nowhere to be found. There was no one close by to ask his whereabouts. There is also a cute log carving of Paul Bunyan that was painted.
If you are using it as a rest stop like we were - maybe make other plans. The bathroom situation is less than ideal!

Some years back, Lucette's head fell off (I think due to a storm). The people of the town decided to put up a new statue of her. They explained her absence by saying she was with child. The new statue has miniature Paul next to her -- Paul's child.
