Winter Haven, Florida: Legoland Florida - USA in Miniature

The largest Lego theme park opened in 2011 at the site of the old Cypress Gardens. Its Miniland USA features toy brick versions of America's landmarks. There is still a waterski show and a botanical gardens, a nod to the tourism of yore, but the steep admission price may not be worth it!

I worked here when it was Cypress Gardens and grew up about a mile from it. I'm glad to see the park is still open, even if it is Legoland -- and it's a great place for kids. I'm also equally glad to see that they retained the original gardens and water ski show, for it really was the first theme park in America.

Tourism Bureau locations have steeply discounted tickets available. This attraction is definitely geared toward the 13 and under set, but some rides can seat adults and the models are entertaining for all ages.

We wish they'd partitioned the "classic" part of the old park -- the Cypress Gardens and waterski show -- in some way to offer cheaper access. The fee seems consistent with what's charged out in Legoland California for an adult. Not for the road tripping 99%, apparently.
