Dizzy Dean Rest area and grave. Jay Hanna "Dizzy" was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1953 and was a noted television baseball announcer until the late 1960s. He and his brother Paul "Daffy" Dean each won two games in the 1934 World Series, pitching for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Two of his most notable quotes, "Son, what pitch would you like to miss," and "He slud into third!" By his own admission, "Anybody who's ever had the privilege of seeing me play knows that I am the greatest pitcher in the world."
Dean's grave is located in the Bond Cemetery and can be found by traveling in the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 49, one mile north of the northern boundary of the Wiggins city limit sign, turn east on Pumping Branch Road and follow the signs to Bond Cemetery. Enter by the far gate, and Dean's Grave will be found in the middle section about the first third of the cemetery, easily located by the real baseballs left on his grave.
