According to a display on the back porch, President Grover Cleveland and members of his cabinet were in Fredericksburg on May 10, 1894 for the dedication of the Mary Washington Monument at her grave site. Afterward, a reception was held on the porch of Mary's old home, where Cleveland got to meet the first president's closest living relatives.
