Highlights of this small museum include Dr. Samuel Mudd's original tombstone and, in the front parlor, on the exact spot, a replica of the wine-red couch where John Wilkes Booth lay as Dr. Mudd set his broken leg.

- From the stoplight at Hwy 5/Beantown Rd and Poplar Hill Rd, turn east onto Poplar Hill Rd for three miles. Bear right at the fork onto Dr. Samuel Mudd Rd. The house will be about a half-mile on the right; look for the sign.

Dr. Samuel Mudd achieved notoriety after setting Lincoln assassin John Wilkes Booth's broken leg on April 15, 1865. He served time for the deed at Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas, off the southern tip of Florida,, and was later pardoned. The Samuel A. Mudd House has been owned by the Mudd family since 1865.
