Martinsville, Virginia: 21-Foot-High Mission Chair
Made of metal that resembles wood, this giant chair is a replica of a Mission chair. Unveiled Dec. 2020, it replaced a wooden 20-footer built in 2002 by Bassett Furniture for its 100th birthday.

Martinsville in its heyday was home to a number of furniture and textile factories. Bassett Virginia, home of Bassett, and Stanley furniture was 10 minutes up the road. Martinsville had Pulaski, Hooker, Lane, and an abundance of factories. When NAFTA hit our area, our textiles went south and our furniture sold out to China.
As a reminder of what the town used to be known for, uptown Martinsville has in a free parking lot a really huge chair, about 2-stories high (guessing).
