Crinkly Lincoln: Bright as a New Penny

A replica of a 1916 statue of Abraham Lincoln by Alfonso Pelzer -- paid for with pennies donated by schoolchildren. Restored in 2001, destroyed by a car in 2018. The town plans to replace it with a new Lincoln statue in 2021.

Lincoln Statue Made with Donated Pennies

The base and plaque are still at the location, a tricky little point of land... but no Lincoln. I left a shiny 1964 Lincoln cent. Maybe others will follow my lead.

Lincoln was hit by a car in November 2018 and a decision was made to retire the statue permanently. The town wants to erect a new Lincoln -- but it won't be the same shiny copper version of Abe.

Lincoln Statue Paid For With Students' Pennies

A statue of Abraham Lincoln at the intersection of the William Penn and Lincoln Highways was erected in 1918, stolen in 1982, knocked loose in 1992, restored and returned in 2002, bright as a new penny.
