Chimney Rock National Monument
Over 1,000 years ago this was home to Pueblo Indians. Ruins of over 200 homes and ceremonial buildings can be seen at the summit, but it requires a two-mile guided hike to reach the site. Chimney Rock itself can be seen from the highway.

About 15 miles out of Kremmling, Colorado on westbound highway 40 (mile marker 169) stands Chimney Rock, a strange rock formation left behind when its surrounding stone eroded away. Though not spectacular, it does have its own highway sign, and a weary traveler might for an instant question whether this is the Chimney Rock of Nebraska pioneer fame. Not so, but it elicited a chuckle from this road tripper anyway.

It's possible you didn't divert quite far enough off US 40 to get to "Chimney Rock," which appears in photos to have a flat summit and sits atop a ridge. To add to the fog enveloping chimney rock-hounds, Colorado has a town by that name 300 miles to the south.
