- Directions:
- From US Hwy 85, one mile north of Deadwood, look for the "Tatanka" sign on the east side of the highway. On the west side of the highway, opposite that sign, is an unmarked gravel road (Pine Crest Lane/Mt. Roosevelt Rd). Turn west onto that gravel road. Follow it 2.5 miles until you see the sign for the Mt. Roosevelt parking area. Park and walk the trail a half-mile to the tower.

Built by Roosevelt's friend Seth Bullock, sheriff of Deadwood, immediately after Teddy's death in 1919. it was the first memorial in the United States to Roosevelt.

Not as brushy -- well maintained. Be ready for an uphill walk for sure...take advantage of the tree stumps to rest.

Mount Roosevelt, a mere 2.5 miles from downtown Deadwood, is home to the Friendship Tower monument created by Seth Bullock, in memory of the friendship he had with President Theodore Roosevelt. After a short hike up to the tower, visitors are able to take in the sights of the beautiful Black Hills.
