Stopped at the little museum in 1998 while in Kansas for the annual Keaton Celebration in Iola. The convention is always fun, with interesting speakers and rare films. I wasn't able to get into the museum myself, as it was closed. Buster Keaton was born in Piqua while his parents were in town with a vaudeville act. His parents literally had him sleep in a suitcase, and he crawled onto a stage at 6 months. Soon the act was The 3 Keatons, and toured in the same show in SE Kansas with Houdini for a short time. Buster's relatives and his wife have visited the museum.
[Heidi M Crabtree, 12/21/2004]Silent movie star Buster Keaton was born here, and unfortunately, the museum always seems to be closed! Piqua is near Iola and Chanute. There is a Buster Keaton Celebration every September at the Iola Bowlus Fine Arts Center. I went one year, drove to Piqua, and the museum was closed.
