Buster Keaton Museum - Silent Film Star Born Here

Stopped at the little museum in 1998 while in Kansas for the annual Keaton Celebration in Iola. The convention is always fun, with interesting speakers and rare films. I wasn't able to get into the museum myself, as it was closed. Buster Keaton was born in Piqua while his parents were in town with a vaudeville act. His parents literally had him sleep in a suitcase, and he crawled onto a stage at 6 months. Soon the act was The 3 Keatons, and toured in the same show in SE Kansas with Houdini for a short time. Buster's relatives and his wife have visited the museum.

Buster Keaton Museum

Silent movie star Buster Keaton was born here, and unfortunately, the museum always seems to be closed! Piqua is near Iola and Chanute. There is a Buster Keaton Celebration every September at the Iola Bowlus Fine Arts Center. I went one year, drove to Piqua, and the museum was closed.
