Personal collection of a local doctor fascinated by the historical progress of his profession and medical treatments. See the Scarificator and the "most kissed face of all time." Closed in 2013. May still be there, but currently not open to the public.

Abingdon Medical Museum

Sadly, when we tried to visit this place, it was closed. No one answered when I called, or returned my emails, and despite the hours listed on their web site and building, the place looked shuttered and closed. I checked with someone in the business next door and she said that she never sees anyone there. I was really looking forward to seeing this museum (and had contacted them in December, at which time they were open), and we made a detour to do so. I was so disappointed that it was closed.

Small museums sometimes close temporarily and don't announce it. It's always best to call a day or two before you make a special trip.
