In our little town of Leslie, Georgia, is located the Georgia Rural Telephone Museum. A large cotton warehouse was bought and renovated by Mr. Tommy Smith to house his 50 year collection of telephone and communications memorabilia.
Many rare and one-of-a-kind telephones as well as most of the Carter telephone system used at Plains when he was president are housed here. Mr. Smith owns Citizens Telephone Co. and maintained the telephone system in Plains for President Carter.
Open Monday through Friday for walk through tours and you may get a guided tour if you call 874-4786 in advance.
If you are traveling down Hwy. 75 and get off at Cordele to visit Plains, Ga., we are located about half way between Cordele and Americus just a short distance off Ga Hwy 280 and well worth a stop to see this amazing display.
