I'm from Brooklyn, New York. I went to visit some friends in Sylacauga and they took me to Gravity Hill at night. They made up this crazy story that the Hill was haunted and that it would swallow my car. When I felt that car going backward I hauled ass out of there. This was early 1990s.
[Jose, 12/24/2017]It was really fun and was literally right off the high way... Use your map on your iPhone App and it will take you right there.

Very hard to find. It does work, though.
[Kim Weed, 01/01/2011]Gravity Hill is less than one mile from my house. It is not haunted! It is a hill that really goes downhill. It just seems like you are going up hill. One day I made up a story about a man who once lived in a trailer who was missing his gold. I really doctored it up good. I added that the car that took his gold, he pulled it back up the hill. Of course when my 7 year old saw our car "magically" go backwards, I thought he was going to tear the roof off of the car to run away.
Guys like to carry their girls there, hoping their "fear" will make them sit really close to them. People say "Gloria's Bridge" is haunted, the "Avondale" boxcar is haunted too. Several cemeteries (which I will not go to!) are haunted. Some say it's what you make it. But, those spirits are real, and I don't have any desire to open those kind of doors!
[L. Sasser, 07/10/2009]Thanks for clarifying the difference between Sylacauga's real and fake spirits.
I grew up in Sylacauga, and anyone who says Gravity Hill is made up can stick it in your eye!
I went all the time and it is real and it does work -- it will pull you up hill either forward or backward with your car in neutral.
