An unidentified Confederate soldier, treacherously murdered by Yankees, buried on April 3, 1864. His grave was eventually enshrined as a state park.

In April 1864, a Confederate soldier, cut off from his unit during the skirmishes over the Red River Campaign, was killed after a skirmish at Crump's Hill. The soldier, whose identification was never discovered, was found and buried by William Hodge Barnill and his sons. They Barnhill family cared for the soldier's grave for 98 years until it was taken over by the state of Louisiana and became a centerpiece for a state historic site/park that also features the Louisiana Country Music Hall of Fame.
