Beautiful walk at night! Lights went out at midnight and didn't come back on the entire time we were there, but it was still an awesome thing to do with kids. Lots of people there, even late at night.

The hike wasn't that bad; mostly flat and smooth. We arrived just before sunset to see the lights. My phone camera wasn't able to take great pictures of the lights but played around with it enough to get some good shots. You can also drive between Madrid and Woodworth and see the bridge from the road (on the bridge crossing the river on that route).
[Janiece, 07/14/2018]Go at night during a full moon to see the trestle bridge shine above the river valley. If you're biking the trail make sure to have lights and wear glow sticks!
[Jenny, 04/30/2017]Very cool! But we found out it was I think .8 miles to the bridge and a little farther to the lights. So it was a bit of a walk. But it was a nice paved path....with no lights. We were there at night so we had to walk in the dark. I learned I CAN see in the dark and it didn't bother me. Wish the lights spanned the whole bridge too, but still it's worth it! Can't wait till I go back!

This bridge was set-up for bikes and walkers to cross the river. It lights up at night.

The High Trestle Trail Bridge is a ten-foot wide ribbon of concrete -- opened to pedestrians, cyclists, and skaters in 2011 -- that rises 13 stories in the air above the Des Moines River. At night, it resembles an effects shot from the original Tron, or a screen from the old Battle Zone arcade game.
