Statue stands outside of the hotel 21C on Main Street, and right down from the Louisville Slugger Museum and the huge Louisville Slugger Bat. If you walk down Main Street you will see all kinds of street art and statues.

Quite the masterpiece; however, if you're going to see the statue, then be sure to stop and eat at the restaurant in 21c (boutique hotel which brought in "David") -- the restaurant is Proof on Main. Delicious!

Replica of David.

30-Foot-Tall Gold Statue of David

Unveiled in 2012, this fiberglass statue sets the standard for the biggest male package on public view in the U.S. It's a replica of Michelangelo's statue of David. The 16th century original remains in Florence, Italy, is carved in white marble, and is not nearly as tall.

This giant copy was created by Turkish-born New York City artist Serkan Ozkaya, who admitted that he had never seen Michelangelo's version. He based this one on a computer model previously created at Stanford University. Ozkaya had some workers in Istanbul build two gold Davids; one remains there, the other now stands in downtown Louisville in front the 21c Museum Hotel, which calls itself the first museum in North America that exclusively exhibits the art of the 21st century. If Ozkaya's David is any indication, that art will be, if nothing else, large and shiny.

The statue, according to 21c PR manager Stephanie Greene, is expected to become a permanent fixture in Louisville, or at least stand around for a very long time.
