A tiny museum, opened in 2005, tells the uncaring world about the overlooked surfer culture of southeast Texas. It occupies the old surf shop of Pat Magee, former surfing champion. Most of the displays come from his collection: several dozen vintage surfboards including "the Otis board," first known surfboard built in Texas; lots of trophies and photographs; a replica surfboard manufacturing garage; a wall-sized mural map of all the surf spots along the Texas Gulf Coast; and, out front, a life-size 1948 "woody" station wagon made of cement-covered foam. According to a sign, the museum is free, "just like the waves."
