Carved from a single log, 21 feet tall, with attached 23-foot-wide metal wings that wiggled in the wind. Honored "The Dragon," a 13-mile-long stretch of winding road popular with motorcyclists.

We were there May 11, 2022. The dragon is no longer there. We were told it was taken down recently.

The dragon sculpture is right off of US 129 and can be seen from the road. The Dragon is an 11 mile stretch of US 129 with 318 curves. It ends at the Tennessee border just north of Deals Gap, NC. The proprietor of Stitchin On The Dragon is Lady Blue (that's what she goes by). She'll even take your picture with the dragon, which was carved by James Swatzell. Dragon is named Stitch.

The body of "Stitch the Dragon" was carved from a single wood log by artist James Swatzell -- it took him a year. Bert Winfree acquired the 21-ft. tall creature and chained him to his business to serve as a roadside landmark.
