Has good neon; exterior looks best after dark. The special "Inaugural Ball" booth inside was Bill's favorite.

McClard's Barbecue

Under new ownership as of June 2020. Be aware that the parking lot is one way starting on the Main St. side and proceeding around to exit onto Albert Pike. Also, do not confuse the McClard's building with the dry cleaners next door.

We hope the new owners didn't remove or relabel the barbecue's "Inaugural Ball" booth, which was Bill Clinton's favorite.

McClard's: Bill Clinton's Favorite Bar-B-Q

In the 1920s, Alex and Gladys McClard owned the Westside Tourist Court a few blocks from their present location. When one of their guests could not come up with the $10 for his two-month stay, he asked the McClard's to accept his recipe for "the world's greatest BBQ sauce" as payment. The McClard's figured that something was better than nothing so they took him up on his offer.

To their great surprise, the broke traveler was right! In 1928, the Westside Tourist Court became Westside Bar-B-Que. In 1942, McClard's moved into this white-washed stucco building.

After over 80 years, the McClard family is better than ever -- they serve over 7,000 pounds of hickory-smoked beef, pork and ribs every week. McClard's is always packed -- there is no waiting list either. When satisfied customers leave a booth or chair, the first person that gets to the table is served -- you have to be quick on your feet! Absolutely worth the wait. Excellent ribs and tamales. Such an old-time feel! Cash only.
