Phallic Rock.

Phallic Rock

Located on the Hawaiian island of Molokai, at the end of state highway 47, near Kalaupapa Lookout, is the famous Phallic Rock. This natural rock formation, true to its name, "protrudes obscenely from the ground amid an ironwood stand as thick as pubic hair" according to one travel guide. The guide goes on to say, "Legend (has it) that a woman offering gifts and spending the night here will return home pregnant".

This site is located on the north-central coast of the island, less than a half-hour's drive from the main airport at Kaunakakai. From Kaunakakai, take Hwy. 46 eastbound turning right on to Hwy. 47 (north).

While you're on Molokai, you can book a mule ride expedition down to the Kaulapapa Hansen's Disease Leper Colony. The US Park Service conducts tours of the Hansen's facility, including a visit to the church where Belgian priest and hero to the outcasts Father Damien is buried. After helping residents for many years, he died of complications from Hansen's Disease himself. The mule ride takes you down a sheer cliff to the colony, 1664-feet below. Not for timid folks! Call (808) 567-6088 for further information and/or reservations.
