I've been on the weekends and the weekdays, and the weekend tour is not worth it because everything is down and the workers are enjoying their weekend. Better to go Monday through Friday.

Tours are long hallways with windows above several manufacturing areas. There are interactive information stations along the walls, and views of employees below. Fun to see how it works!

The switchback line for the free Jelly Belly factory tour queues right in front of the free bean Sample Bar. Inflated jelly bean cartoon characters float overhead. Most of the sugar-stoked families don't bother to look at an exhibit behind glass in the lobby. It contains "Articles from the collection of the Herman G. Rowland family archives" -- a display of President Ronald Reagan memorabilia.
Rowland was chairman of the board at the Herman Goelitz Candy Company, and collected items, from campaign buttons, to golf balls to autographed photos. Throughout the Reagan terms 1981-1989, his company sent jelly bean jars and gift boxes to Washington, inscribed with the Presidential Seal. They were used as gifts for many visiting dignitaries. President Reagan sent Rowland a letter only days before exiting the White House in 1989, blown up in the exhibit for all to read, where RR acknowledges "jelly beans seem to have become a 'Reagan trademark.'"
"Thank you for making my job just that much sweeter. Sincerely, Ronald Reagan."
[RoadsideAmerica.com Team, 06/17/2013]Make sure to check out the "Belly Flops" that are for sale near the door. These are the beans that didn't quite make the cut (usually too big or too small -- but sometimes really weird looking). They taste great and are super cheap!
