On July 5, 2012, the Virgin Mary on the front lawn of a house began to bleed, then weep, then smile, according to its Vietnamese owners. The usual crush of believers arrived, and neighbors were not happy.

We arrived at the house but Mary was nowhere to be found. A neighbor told us she had been removed last year.
