Unclaimed Baggage Center

After watching reports from the Today Show and other media, we made a several hundred mile trip to go to the UCB store. What a waste of gas and time. This was nothing more than a bad thrift store but there was nothing thrifty about the prices. They had very little unclaimed merchandise and a lot of cheap purchased junk. There was one shirt that my husband looked at that had a tag from a well known discount store with their original price of $19 and the UCB price tag was $29. As far as the phones and electronics, what a joke. The phones were so old and outdated and the computers looked like they had been thru the mill. The prices were almost full retail.

Feels like a fancier Goodwill. There were some good finds (DD was thrilled to get a "new" iPod for $165) but it wasn't bursting with deals. Still, a good stopover.

This is definitely an oversized thrift store where most stuff is priced too high. The store is clean and the aisles are wide, but for the most part, if you don't live within the area, not worth it. Not sure what all the hype is about. Yes, they have electronics but, no manuals and no guarantees and the prices are not great. They have used underwear (they do clean them), lots and lots of clothes, jewelry that is hit and miss, lots of books. The Annex looks like old household goods and some cheesy paintings. They have a cafe that is decent, and customer service was okay.

OK, so the museum aspect of it was here and there. I personally had never really paid too much attention to the movie The Labyrinth, so the dolls on display weren't too interesting. However, the rest of the store was unbelievable. If you like thrift stores, which I particularly do, then this place is a utopia. Deals I haven't seen in a very long time. I got 4 pairs of pants, 3 shirts, and a few books for close-to-nothing.

And knowing those clothes came out of someone's unclaimed airline luggage makes it even more special!

Visiting this location only goes to prove having a great marketing director or firm brings people who would normally not enter the doors. ABC Good Morning America, Oprah and the numerous websites go on about how great it is. The first clue should have been the number of people walking out without making a purchase. Items were priced much more than I expected. Don't waste your time. If you decide to visit and are as disappointed as we were, there were some highlights: the Blue Willow House (great food within the antique store) and the covered bridges around Fort Payne.

We were there years ago -- they had some obvious airport luggage booty then. Seem to recall buying other people's music CDs on the cheap, still in their little travel pouches.
