Begun by farmer Leonard Dawson in the 1970s, his family continues to paint boulders along their roadside property to create a craggy menagerie.

From Scottsboro drive east on US Hwy 72 for five miles. In the hamlet of Hollywood, turn left (north) onto Hwy 33/Bellefonte Rd. Drive 7.5 miles. Turn right onto Hwy 32, and follow it for two miles. You'll see the rock zoo on the left.

State roads 33 and 32 are amazingly beautiful, and the Rock Zoo is one of the best roadside attractions I've seen so far.

In Jackson County, Alabama, just outside of Scottsboro there is a Rock Animal Zoo that draws some strange looks. The farmer that owns the land has put his artistic touch on several of the large rocks in the front of his property.
