Wichita, Kansas: The Troll
RoadsideAmerica.com Team Field Report
- Address:
- 777 W. Central Ave., Wichita, KS
- Directions:
- Along a walking path behind and just to the right of the old Westar power plant building, which is on the south side of W. Central Ave. on the east bank of the Arkansas River. Park in the lot behind the building, then walk to the right. You'll see the path and the big grate in it. The troll is visible beneath that grate, and also from the side, through a wall grate visible from another path that parallels the river. Both paths are part of a large trail system with its own cross-river bridges, so you can park in other places and simply walk over to the Troll.

The super cool troll is more visible from the top grate than the side. A local said that he had been moved back due to previous vandalism.

It's so fun to search for the Troll, since it was somewhere under our shoes. Bring children if you want to scare them!
[Dack Virnig, 07/26/2015]
The Troll is difficult to see from the wall grate.
[Erin, 05/19/2015]
A little difficult to find, as there are no signs pointing to the Troll, or even signs at the grate telling you to look down. Best way to find him: follow the river path from the Keeper of the Plains Indian statue south toward the War Memorial. About halfway you will either walk over a grate or see a padlocked gate in a grotto-like area, depending on the path you take.
