The 1981-87 TV series was filmed in LA, but set in an every-city ghetto that looked like a number of decaying eastern metropolises. Lots of the B-roll shots were from the Chicago area, and the Maxwell Street Precinct Station House was the exterior for the Hill Street Precinct Station.
