Arlington, Texas: World's First Billy Bass Adoption Center
The novelty animatronic singing fish on a plaque, Big Mouth Billy Bass, ended up in thousands of closets after its pop culture splash in the late 1990s. This restaurant chain has procured enough to display on its walls and make the Adoption Center claim.

The manager was wonderful to talk to. He said if you bring in your own Billy Bass, you can decorate it to look like you. Mustache, glasses, eyelashes, etc. The food was great. I especially liked the hand pies and beans and rice made right there.

The owner claims that this is the first of several of these "adoption centers" throughout the South and West. It's inside the Flying Fish restaurant, and rumor has it you get a free basket of fried catfish and fries with every donation. There are also several knock- offs in the restaurant, like a Singing Shark. According to a local newspaper, most of the Billy Bass's are brought in by women.

The claim of "World's First Billy Bass Adoption Center" is used by the Flying Fish in several (and perhaps all) of its locations, but that shouldn't discourage you from stopping in to gape at walls decorated with retired-from-singing novelty fish mounts.
