Goofy Armadillo Sign
The armadillo is decked out in a hat and boots. Not sure what it originally advertised.
[Rick Kincaid, 06/26/2015]The "Albino Armadillo" at what is now the Norteno Meat Market was created by Bob "Daddy-O" Wade, a local sculptor who placed such art in unlikely locations from the late '60s through the '70s and beyond. It was part of what is now a largely forgotten "Cosmic Cowboy" campaign, also part of the Austin music scene of the period. The Armadillo has been repainted several times.

The meat market is gone but the little guy is still there. When you visit him, go the extra mile or two to the Dallas Arboretum. No roadside attractions, but it's still very nice.

There's a strange, white armadillo standing on the Nortena Meat Market sign. He wears a red cowboy hat, red cowboy boots, and teal gloves. When driving down the road, my husband thought it was an albino rat. Closer inspection revealed an armadillo waving at us. I don't know anyone who has ever eaten armadillo, but if that's what they advertise on their meat market sign, I guess they specialize in road kill.

It used to be a sign for a meat market. Guess the armadillo chops didn't sell.
