Aluminum boat contorted around a metal birdhouse pole is a monument to an F3 tornado that devastated Siren on June 18, 2001. The town siren was out of commission due to a lightning strike months earlier, but the police chief became a human siren of sorts with his car PA system, warning residents.

The sign refers to a tornado that struck with sudden savagery in June of 2001. The boat, some distance from water by the way, was wrapped around a pole holding a bird house. 11 years later it is still there.

The town's single warning siren was broken by a lightning strike two months earlier, but many lives were saved when the police chief drove around just before it hit, repeating warnings over his squad car's PA system.
