Boat Wrapped Around Pole

The sign refers to a tornado that struck with sudden savagery in June of 2001. The boat, some distance from water by the way, was wrapped around a pole holding a bird house. 11 years later it is still there.

[Tim and Laura, 11/23/2012]

An F3 tornado cut a half-mile wide path through Siren on the evening of June 18, 2001, demolishing buildings and flinging cows through the air. Three residents died. The town's single warning siren was broken by a lightning strike two months earlier, but many lives were saved when the police chief drove around just before it hit, repeating warnings over his squad car's PA system.
