I am a local. The water mark is no longer visible on the concrete and it is no longer lit up. There were a few companies that came in and wanted to build hotels and other businesses near the interstate. When asked what that concrete slab was, they were told. Then they decided not to take a chance and invest there. Stupid idea on our leader's part. So they removed the blue line painted on it, but everyone knows what it is (insert eyeroll).

[Racheal, 01/06/2013]There are two monuments, one on each side of the interstate. In 2011, the local papers reported that the town council griped to the state about the monument (which forever immortalizes how high water gets in a bad hurricane). It might discourage sought-after business development near the interchange.
