Stopped here a few months ago to get a glance of the sundial leg. You do have go into the check-in office at the entrance. Unfortunately I was not allowed to take a photo, as the two ladies working at the front desk said "No Pictures Allowed." But they did let me peek my head out the door to see the leg, as it's right outside the office. I ended up buying a post card with a picture on it as a souvenir.

I grew up going to what was then called "Naked City." My family had a trailer that we kept there year-round. I have wonderful memories of riding my bike with friends, swimming in the pool, evening bonfires, fishing in the lake, and Saturday night dances at the roundhouse. At that time Naked City was family-oriented. Parents kept their kids from the front of the resort during nude contest weekends, and Dick Drost's management kept contest visitors from coming back into the resort. Contests were held near the leg sundial just behind the gold-windowed roundhouse.
Naked City has always been clothing-optional. People would walk around naked and camp naked. In the late 1970s, as rumors began to circulate about Dick Drost, our family and numerous others moved our membership and trailers to Ponderosa Sun Club. The sundial is something I will never forget and I still remember knowing what time it was based on her shadow.

Stopped by recently to visit the big leg sundial. They are re-doing the leg sometime in the spring of 2017. The plywood frame is rotting and needs to be replaced, along with the plexiglass that covers it.
Believe it or not, I grew up going to Sun-Aura. My mother would bring us to visit friends of hers who live there. As a kid, I used to play basketball with my brother on the patio next to the leg, and eat grilled cheese in the restaurant. It's actually a really interesting place. "Resort" is more of a fancy term. It's a normal-sized mobile home park on a private lake surrounded by trees, designed to be a place of refuge for people who enjoy the nudist lifestyle.
The people here are not "pervs." They are not swingers. It has absolutely nothing to do with sex. They just feel more comfortable naked than in clothes. They will not approach you without clothes on, and they will not ask you to take your clothes off. So please, don't be afraid to come here, even if you have kids with you. 99.9% of the the time, you will not see anyone walking around outside with nothing on. And on the off chance that you do see that, the houses are situated WAY back from the leg and the restaurant, so you'd only really be seeing a blurry outline of a person.

Didn't get in to see the leg. Nudists riding bikes, little uncomfortable...
[Patty & Jeff, 03/21/2012]Yes, the Giant Leg Sundial is in the center of a nudist resort. In the past the management has been accommodating to travelers who asked to take a quick peek...
Giant Lady's Leg Sundial
This is indeed a clothing optional resort. It is gated, so I just popped into the office/restaurant to ask about the leg. A helpful (fully clothed) resident escorted me to the sundial which is right behind the office. It was quite impressive. Their only request was that I respect their privacy and not photograph any of the nudists (I only saw one completely disrobed fellow, and he was inside the restaurant bar).
Interestingly, it is the second nudist/clothing optional resort in town. Sun Aura is adults only. Ponderosa, located just down the street, is a family place...

Accord to the website of Sun Aura resort, "If you come to the front desk during business hours we'll be happy to let you pop in to camp long enough to see her [the leg] and get a picture." Those two ladies must have been new to the job.
