1970s hit music duo Karen and Richard Carpenter bought a pair of apartment buildings and named them after their chart-topping singles. The names "Close To You" and "Only Just Begun" remain on the sides of the buildings.

In the early 1970's, after their first string of hits, Karen and Richard Carpenter purchased apartment buildings in Downey as an investment. The buildings are named after the Carpenters hits, "Close to You" and "Only Just Begun."
They are across the street from one another and are still functioning apartments, but obviously no longer owned by The Carpenters.
