Paramount Ranch.

Paramount Ranch

It used to be run down, but the Western town has been repaired and renovated and they've even added a few buildings in the last year or so. It's a nice hike, the Parks Dept. does tours, and it has "Silents Under the Stars" nights every summer, where old silent movies are projected outdoors in the picnic area.

Paramount Ranch: Movies Sets

In 1927 Paramount Pictures purchased 2,400 acres for use as a "movie ranch." After World War II the studio sold the property, and parcels were sold to private investors. In 1952 Bill Hertz bought 326 acres that still bore the Paramount name, and turned the land into a western town. In 1980, the National Park Service purchased the land and revitalized the old movie ranch.

TV programs filmed at Paramount Ranch Park include Dr Quinn Medicine Woman, CSI, Weeds, X-Factor, Carnivale, A-Team, Dukes of Hazzard, McGyver, and hundreds more. Movies shot in the park include Scream, Van Helsing, The Lake House, The Great Outdoors, Helter Skelter, and Gunfight at the OK Corral plus dozens of other old westerns back in the day.
