Plymouth, Massachusetts: Sacrifice Rock

Even older (and possibly more powerful) than Plymouth Rock is Sacrifice Rock, an attraction for the natives long before the Pilgrims arrived.

394 Old Sandwich Rd, Plymouth, MA
Southeast of town. On the east side of Old Sandwich Rd, just south of its intersection with the conveniently named Sacrifice Rock Rd, and east of a new development called Seton Highlands. If you go too far east, you'll find yourself on a dirt road.

Early colonists believed that the rock was used for sacrifices by the Indians, hence its name.

Sacrifice Rock

On Old Sandwich Road is a rock sometimes referred to as "Indian Rock." Supposedly it was used for sacrifices.

[anonymous, 02/19/2013]

According to the Plymouth Antiquarian Society (which owns the rock), the "sacrifices" made to the rock were symbolic sticks or stones, not living creatures. A plaque bolted to the rock asserts that its Indian name translates to "God's Rock."
