Fish Camp, California: California Tunnel Tree
A hole big enough to accommodate a horse and buggy was chopped through the trunk of a living giant sequoia in 1895. Now exclusively a walk-thru tree, it's as popular as ever.

- Directions:
- From Oakhurst, drive north 15.5 miles on Hwy 41 (You'll enter Yosemite National Park along the way). Turn right onto Mariposa Grove Rd. Drive two miles until it ends at the Mariposa Grove parking area. Follow the trail that begins at the far end. Climb uphill through the lower portion of the grove. The Tunnel Tree is three-quarters of a mile up the trail.

Before there were even automobiles, there were holes hacked through the center of Californias giant sequoias. One of the first was the California Tunnel Tree, now part of the Mariposa Grove in Yosemite National Park.
