A large fiberglass statue of Minnesota's mascot gopher, "Fairchild" is a fixture on the state fairgrounds. He's dressed like a carnival barker, and wears a straw hat and bow tie. Has a nephew, "Fairborne."

I love this statue! I actually have a bobblehead version I bought in 2012 at a souvenir store at the Fair. I think there is a log carving version of him or his identical son Fairborne somewhere on the streets. Lots of odd statues along the streets at the Fairgrounds.

The State Fair's mascot has been the gopher since 1966, dubbed "Fairchild" in a naming contest held throughout Minnesota. Henry S. Fairchild is credited with recommending the farm land that became the State Fair's permanent venue. The gopher's sidekick nephew, "Fairborne," joined the hilarity in 1983.
