Hyattsville, Maryland: Library With Flying Saucer

An otherwise unremarkable 1960s library building has a large flying saucer above its entrance, serving as a canopy. It doesn't just happen to look like a flying saucer -- it was designed to be a flying saucer. Look it up in the library.

Hyattsville Branch Library

This 1960s "Jet Age" branch library looks like a flying saucer! The flying saucer has legs that stretch down and form a canopy that shields the main entrance in a rather novel way. Such a whimsical piece of architecture is in a place that would not generally be described as whimsical.
