Glass and wood church in the forest, built in 1980 by E. Fay Jones, supposedly an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wright. It looks like something elvish out of The Lord of the Rings.

The man behind Thorncrown Chapel wanted to create a place where all could come to enjoy the scenery, as well as the beauty of the building itself. It is open, airy, and beautiful.

Fantastic sight! Not to be missed. Worth a moment of contemplation regardless of your beliefs.

Beautiful chapel, beautiful story behind it (too long to type on my phone). Very surprised to not see this attraction already on here! A must see!
[Allison, 04/23/2013]Probably got caught in our "beautiful" mail filter. Five stories tall, made of wood and mostly windows -- 425 of them -- the Chapel stands among towering trees and looks like the elvish architecture of cinematic Rivendell in the "Lord of the Rings." It was designed by architect E. Fay Jones and opened on July 10, 1980. July 2018: Photo added.
