New Glarus has been recognized as "America's Little Switzerland" by none other than the country of Switzerland! The Swiss Canton of Glarus funded the establishment of the only Swiss Center in North America to be headquartered in New Glarus. Opened in 2003, near the Swiss Historical Village, the small center contains Swiss-American artifacts and information, and promotes "the commerce, heritage and contributions of the Swiss in North America."
