Horse-Drawn Train, Ardenwood Historic Farm
In 1881 a new train started serving the people of Centerville and Newark. The uniqueness of this train was its engine... or the lack of an engine. The train was powered by horses. A single horse pulled a small, four-wheel horsecar for passengers, at 10 cents per trip. The train was started by my great-grandfather, Charles Huntington Burdick, and later run by his brother, Henry "Old Bones" Burdick, for around 30 years.
Today one can take a short trip and learn the history of this unusual train by visiting the Ardenwood Historic Farms in Fremont.
