Block Island, Rhode Island: Mass Grave of the Princess Augusta
Ship filled with German Palatine immigrants ran aground off Block island in 1738. This is the mass grave of a fraction of the hundreds who died. Locals were blamed by some for luring the ship to its doom; others said that they risked their lives to rescue the few survivors.

Visitor Tips and News About Mass Grave of the Princess Augusta
Reports and tips from RoadsideAmerica.com visitors and Roadside America mobile tipsters. Some tips may not be verified. Submit your own tip.
In the 1700s, Block Islanders had a bit of a piratical streak and would shipwreck ships on the shoals to plunder their wealth. This is the mass grave from their shipwreck of the Princess Augusta, carrying folks to America from the Palatine in Germany.
Ghosts have been seen here. In addition, the ghost ship of the burning Princess Augusta is suppose to be seen at night -- but we did not venture out to see it. Do not attempt to find this on your own you will get lost. Contact the Block Island Historical Society. They will take you to the grave site for a fee.
