I checked on him on November 8, 2015. He's still laying down. It looks like it's the home of the island junk collector. No one was around to ask what they plan on doing with him.

I took a picture [of the Viking on its back] while vacationing in Chincoteague a couple of weeks ago. I was interested because it looks like a statue that I had seen, years ago, in Lake Placid, New York. I had never seen it standing on Ridge Rd in Chincoteague.
[Marilyn, 09/25/2015]On our visit to Chincoteague last week, we were told that the property where the Viking stood was sold, and the new owners didn't want it there any more.

The Viking is back!
[David Almasi, 11/30/2013]Standing adjacent to a flea market, the old mascot of Capt. Mr. Bob Payne's Sea Treasures spent most of 2013 in pieces, but has been restored and painted.
Happy to report that the Viking appears to be on the road to recovery. Local fiberglass technicians from the boat repair yard and the Coast Guard station have him reassembled and ready to head out for a new coat of paint. Hopefully, he'll be back at his post in the near future.
[Treetop Tom, 07/16/2013]Good news!

The Big Viking was a beloved icon of Chincoteague until a property owner had him taken down in April 2015. The Viking you remember from Lake Placid was purchased by Magic Forest in Lake George circa 2003, and currently slumbers in storage.
