9-hole Buhl Park Golf Course is promoted as the only free golf course in America. Open about eight months a year (spring to fall). It was founded by millionaire philanthropist Frank Buhl in the early 1900s along with nearby Buhl Park. A trust fund keeps the park maintained, but a new pay-for-use driving range is supplementing the park's budget. The course has had several layouts over the years. The 7, 8, and 9 holes were designed by Arnold Palmer (a western Pennsylvania resident), who was the first to tee off on them.
