Decorated Tree

This is something to look at as you drive by on I-30. I always remind my kids to look for it. We call it the "Homeless Christmas Tree," because of the book written about this tree.

Decorated Tree

The mimosa, while still standing, has died. Probably a victim of the drought (pre-2015). Someone, however, has planted another tree (kind unknown), so there's still something to decorate!

Decorated Tree

There is a mimosa tree on I-30 in Fort Worth atop a hill off the freeway that used to be just decorated for Christmas, but now seems to be decorated for all holidays. According to a USA Today article (2003) it was decorated for many years by a homeless woman named Carla Christian. She decorated the tree for Christmas to "remind commuters of the homeless." No one really knows who decorates the tree now.

There has also been a children's book published about the little tree, "The Homeless Christmas Tree," by Leslie Gordon. I know personally I have always loved to see that little tree as I drive into Fort Worth, especially at Christmas.
