I remember seeing this bear many times. I was born in 1965 and I was very little when we saw it. I was always sad that it was in the cage, but I liked seeing it.
[Kim H., 05/02/2016]Home of Buckeye Lake Black Bear
As late as the early sixties, there was a penned black bear on display for the amusement of tourists en route to Buckeye Lake. It was a different time, and not unusual for gas stations to keep caged bears or monkeys as an attraction. The bear's cinder block "cave" is now filled with trash, and the fence is down. Just down the street, a cement slab is all that remains of a gas station with a captive monkey that ate Milky Way bars.
