Palm Springs, California: RoboLights Sculpture Garden
A two-acre neighborhood yard is the sculpture garden of Kenny Irwin Jr, combining robots, sci-fi, Christmas, and Islam. He calls it the RoboLights Project, and has been working on it since 1986.

Though it's lit at night mostly only during the holiday season, and not open for tours without appointments, there's plenty to see from the street. The Robolights display includes a pumpkin tank ready to blast a scrap metal Christmas tree and Santa's stagecoach.
[Jay Kirby, 04/11/2022]It's open! Kenny Irwin opens his RoboLights exhibit 9-5, by appointment only, following strict pandemic rules. We went there over Thanksgiving weekend 2020, and we had the place to ourselves. It's an absolute must.
[sandwich, 12/19/2020]Sadly, this place has closed in Palm Springs. It's been temporarily relocated to Detroit and will be coming back to Palm Springs once they find a home for it.
[Jeremy Holmes, 12/25/2019]Kenny Irwin Jr's display was staged at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit for the December 2019 holiday season. It was reported closed in Palm Springs in 2018, and would have to comply with city regulations to reopen there. It may also end up 10 miles north, in Desert Hot Springs, at property Irwin purchased.
Robo Lights is less than a block away from Frank Sinatra's home (built in 1947).

Seriously. This is a must. Go to the gate and call the phone number for a tour. We took so many photos. Yes, it is art from materials that were going to be thrown away. We got to meet the artist and bought some wonderful pieces.
