The Maritime and Irish Mossing museum shows the history of harvesting Irish Moss, a seaweed with a thickening agent that is used in toothpaste, ice cream, medicine, and industrial products. For a century it was only harvested in Scituate. In addition, the museum has displays about the many shipwrecks along the Massachusetts coast. The people who run this place are very friendly.
