Lexington, Kentucky: Horse Cemetery
Most horses don't get buried in cemeteries, but winners of the Triple Crown and the Kentucky Derby do. This small graveyard -- or at least its tombstones -- was moved when a Walmart was built on its original spot.

Directions to the site were fine. You come down the stairs take a left. You'll see a marker with a man's head; the horse graves are behind that. Fenced in area -- gate was open.
[Sue C, 03/18/2025]This is a beautiful, historic little spot, although there is only one Kentucky Derby winner buried here, Plaudit, who won the Derby back in 1898. If there is a Triple Crown winner here, it's a Standardbred, not a Thoroughbred. Very cool, just the same. Up until 15 years ago you could still see the outline of the training track where a Lowes is now. Many of Lexington's great old farms are now under parking lots.

A beautiful walking path leads to the park.

Look for the break in the guard rail if coming from the Walmart lot.

The sidewalk that leads to it is across street from a bus stop in the Walmart parking lot. It's a very pretty place.
