Lafayette, Louisiana: 9/11 Memorial Beams, Rocks, Dirt
Monument dedicated on Sept. 11, 2002 features two World Trade Center beams, Pentagon limestone and dirt from the Shanksville Flt. 93 crash site. On Sept. 11, 2013, a conspiracy theorist/artist vandalized the WTC girders by adding two cartoon cardboard jets crashing (but his recognizable cartoon style led to his swift capture).

This monument is dedicated to the 9/11 attacks. It features two beams from the World Trade Center and a slab of limestone from the exterior of the Pentagon. The two beams stand upright, mirroring the towers, and are set into a base that is pentagon-shaped. The section of the base corresponding to where the plane hit the Pentagon is distressed and looks vandalized. A polished black pedestal explains the significance of the monument in both English and French.
